Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, has come under scrutiny after allegedly calling on supporters to kill members of the Accord Party if they are encountered ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
In a video reviewed by P.M. NEWS, Fadahunsi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was seen addressing supporters in Yoruba while speaking about the Accord Party and the August 15 governorship election.
According to a translation of his remarks, the senator said: “What kind of life is that? If we hear anything about Accord in Ilesa here, record me and go and tell them.”
He reportedly continued: “When we tell them, the cap they are putting on is a bad one, yellow one.”
The senator then allegedly told his supporters: “So, we have come to tell you now, from now till the election day, if we see them, kill them o.”
The remarks have raised fresh concerns about the possibility of political violence and intimidation in the final days of the Osun governorship campaign.
The election is scheduled for August 15, with political parties intensifying their campaigns and mobilisation across the state.
The development is particularly significant given the heightened political tension surrounding the election, with rival parties and their supporters trading allegations over campaign activities and conduct.
Fadahunsi currently represents Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly and is a member of the APC.
The alleged comments also come against the backdrop of repeated appeals by security agencies, political parties, civil society organisations and other election stakeholders for politicians and their supporters to shun violence and ensure a peaceful election.
Political actors have been urged to rely on lawful campaign methods and allow voters to freely exercise their constitutional right to choose their preferred candidate.
As of the time of filing this report, Fadahunsi had not publicly withdrawn, explained or clarified the alleged remarks.
The comments are likely to attract further reactions from political parties, election observers and security authorities as Osun enters the final stretch of the governorship election.
