Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has denied having any electoral deal or partnership with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before, during or after the state’s governorship election.
Adeleke, who secured re-election in Saturday’s poll, said the victory was achieved through the support of God Almighty and the people of Osun State.
The governor made the clarification amid reports and political claims surrounding alliances and partnerships that may have influenced the outcome of the election.
He said the ADC was not part of the “rainbow coalition” that mobilised support for his campaign ahead of the election.
“For the sake of history, it is important to clarify that the ADC was never part of the rainbow coalition that canvassed, mobilised, and supported our campaign in the battle leading to last Saturday’s election,” Adeleke said.
The governor, however, acknowledged the contributions of his political allies and partners, commending them for their sacrifices and efforts toward securing victory at the polls.
“I commend all our political partners who sacrificed, worked tirelessly, and went all out to make Saturday a victory day for all Osun people. Their commitment and support were instrumental to our success,” he said.
Adeleke defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and ADC candidate Najeem Salaam in the August 15 governorship election.
The governor polled 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes, while Salaam garnered 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11.
Following his victory, Adeleke said he would govern all residents of the state regardless of their political affiliations, religious beliefs or ethnic backgrounds.
“Now that the election is over, I remain the Governor of all Osun people, irrespective of political affiliation, religion, or tribe. My commitment is to unite our people and continue working for the progress and prosperity of Osun State,” he said.
