Professor Segun Aina has officially assumed office as the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede after the expiration of his two-term tenure.
Aina took over the leadership of the examination body on Friday at JAMB’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, following the end of Oloyede’s 10-year tenure on July 31, 2026.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had appointed Aina as the substantive registrar on May 21 to lead the board. At 39, he became Nigeria’s youngest professor of Computer Engineering and now holds the distinction of being the youngest person to serve as JAMB registrar.
Announcing the appointment earlier, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Aina as a distinguished academic and systems expert with vast experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public-sector institutional reforms.
Speaking during his inauguration, Aina pledged to preserve JAMB’s credibility by strengthening the integrity of its examination processes through greater investment in technology.
He also declared a renewed crackdown on examination malpractice, warning individuals involved in cheating and other fraudulent practices that they would find no room under his administration.
According to him, the board will continue to work closely with security agencies to enhance the credibility and transparency of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and other examinations conducted by JAMB.
Aina’s appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for the examination body, with expectations that his expertise in technology and digital systems will drive reforms aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and examination security.
