Barcelona and Spain winger Lamine Yamal has continued to build an impressive head-to-head record against France captain Kylian Mbappé, with the teenage sensation emerging victorious in nearly every major knockout competition the two have contested.
The latest chapter in their growing rivalry comes as Spain and France prepare to face off in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final, a fixture many have described as the biggest meeting yet between the two stars.
Yamal has enjoyed the upper hand in recent meetings, helping Barcelona defeat Mbappé’s Real Madrid in multiple domestic competitions. In La Liga, Barcelona recorded three victories against Madrid, while Mbappé managed just one win. The Spanish youngster also played a decisive role in Barcelona’s Copa del Rey triumph by providing two assists in the final and scored in the Spanish Super Cup final, where Barcelona cruised to a 5-2 victory.
On the European stage, Yamal was also on the winning side as Barcelona knocked Mbappé’s team out of the UEFA Champions League after taking control of the tie before the French forward’s dismissal.
At international level, Yamal announced himself on the biggest stage by scoring a stunning equaliser against France in the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-final, helping Spain secure a place in the final. He also featured prominently as Spain defeated France again in the UEFA Nations League, reinforcing his growing influence in high-profile matches.
With Yamal having won each of their previous knockout meetings, attention now shifts to the FIFA World Cup, where Mbappé will be seeking to end the Spaniard’s remarkable streak and guide France to another final.
The World Cup semi-final is expected to add another memorable chapter to what is rapidly becoming one of football’s most compelling modern rivalries.
