Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has donated ₦50,000 each to the 25 schoolchildren rescued after spending weeks in captivity following their abduction from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The financial support came as the children began reuniting with their families after undergoing medical examinations and psychosocial care following their rescue by security operatives.
The donation, which amounts to ₦1.25 million, is intended to provide immediate relief to the children and their families as they begin the difficult process of recovering from the traumatic experience.
The pupils were among those abducted by armed kidnappers during coordinated attacks on schools in the Oriire community, an incident that sparked nationwide outrage and renewed concerns over insecurity in schools.
After weeks in captivity, the victims regained their freedom in a military-led rescue operation and were subsequently placed under medical observation before being handed over to the Oyo State Government for reunification with their families.
Sunday Dare’s intervention has been welcomed by many as a humanitarian gesture aimed at easing the burden on the affected families, even as calls continue for sustained support, including trauma counselling, educational assistance and improved security around schools.
Parents and residents expressed gratitude over the safe return of the children while urging governments at all levels to ensure that such incidents do not recur and that all those responsible for the abduction are brought to justice.
