By Our Reporter

A fresh political shake-up has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State following the defection of a former council secretary and prominent party chieftain, Alhaji Adedokun Wasiu Adegboyega, to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Adegboyega, who was accompanied by members of his political structure, was formally received into the APM alongside the former APC Ward 9 Chairman, Akindele Tajudeen, popularly known as Oji, and other supporters drawn from different wards across the local government.

The defectors were received on Wednesday, August 2, at the residence of the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji.

Other members of Adegboyega’s political camp who joined the APM include Alhaji Lateef Oladoja, Alfa Morounfolu Isiaka Lasisi, Mr Ganiyu Olayiwola, Comrade Odunlami Olanrewaju, Akeem Atilola Kehinde, Olusegun Odetayo and Owolabi Tirimisiyu Ishola.

Tajudeen, who reportedly resigned as APC Ward 9 Chairman before joining the APM, was said to have followed Adegboyega, his political leader, into the new political platform.

Adegboyega was also a former political ally of the member representing Oluyole Federal Constituency, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe.

The development is being viewed by APM leaders in the constituency as a significant boost to the party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Receiving the defectors, the Oluyole APM Chairman, Hon. Nasiru Hamzat, welcomed Adegboyega, Tajudeen and their supporters into the party.

Hamzat described their decision to join the APM as a demonstration of confidence in the party’s political direction and the leadership of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

He also said the movement would further strengthen the party’s grassroots structure across Oluyole.

Speaking at the event, Oluyole Local Government Chairman, Akeem Olatunji, described Adegboyega as a major grassroots political actor whose defection could strengthen the APM’s electoral prospects in the constituency.

Olatunji said the former APC chieftain’s political experience and support base would contribute to the APM’s efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Our political net has really caught a big fish and we’re very happy about it. This is a clear testament to the vision and results of good governance under the Makinde-led government,” Olatunji said.

He assured the new members that they would be fully integrated into the party, stressing that the APM would provide an inclusive platform for all members.

According to him, the latest defection is part of the APM’s broader efforts to expand its ward structures, intensify grassroots mobilisation and attract prominent political actors across Oluyole.

Olatunji added that the movement of Adegboyega and his supporters from the APC would further consolidate the APM’s political structure as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

Also present at the event were the APM Oluyole chairmanship candidate, Hon. Popoola Olaide Settle, and his running mate, Hon. Taofeek Ogunrinde.

Other political figures at the gathering included former Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Ayuba Balogun; Alhaji Adegbola Mukaila; Hon. Kehinde Abore; Hon. Wahab Kazeem, popularly known as LASKAZ; and Pastor Remi Adedapo, pioneer Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oluyole Local Government.

Others were former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Lukman Salawu; Engr. Sola Shofowora; Alhaji Yisau Kobomoje; Baba Alado; and Alhaji Wasiu Arewa.

The event also attracted all APM ward chairmen and the party’s councillorship candidates across Oluyole Local Government.

In his response, Adegboyega pledged his loyalty to the APM and promised to deploy his political structure and mobilise his supporters for the success of the party at the grassroots.

The latest development adds another layer to the emerging political realignments in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly as political parties intensify efforts to strengthen their grassroots structures and attract influential actors across the state.
