President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe on what the Presidency described as a working vacation.

Tinubu arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 6:22pm on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, aboard the presidential aircraft.

The President departed Abuja on August 30 for London, where he spent about a week before travelling to Paris, France. His stay was later extended by a few days beyond the initial three-week schedule.

While in Paris, Tinubu held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and met business figures, including Vincent Bolloré and First HoldCo Chairman, Femi Otedola. He also witnessed the signing of agreements involving the Ogun State Government and DP World concerning the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port and Blue Marine Economic Zone.

The Presidency said Tinubu chose to return through Lagos to honour the memory of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

The President is expected to remain in Lagos for the coming days, where he will participate in activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1.

He is also expected to attend the premiere of a film honouring Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, on Independence Day.

According to the Presidency, Tinubu will also hold meetings with political leaders and associates in Lagos as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue. He is expected to return to Abuja after his Lagos engagements.

During his absence, Vice-President Kashim Shettima represented him at several official engagements, including Nigeria’s participation at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
