A member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiola Ibrahim Inaolaji, representing Irewole-Isokan Constituency, has allegedly confessed to importing 146 voters into Ikire to vote for the Accord Party in the ongoing governorship election.
The lawmaker reportedly made the confession in a preliminary statement to the Osun State Police Command following his arrest alongside the suspected voters.
According to the statement, the 146 persons were allegedly brought into Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, to cast their ballots in favour of the Accord Party.
Inaolaji and the 146 suspected voters were arrested by the police and subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged movement of the voters, including their identities and the polling units where they were expected to vote, were not immediately clear.
The suspects are expected to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the alleged mobilisation and whether any electoral offence was committed.
The development comes as voters across Osun State continue to participate in the governorship election, with security agencies monitoring the exercise for possible breaches of electoral laws.
The police are yet to publicly release detailed findings on the case or confirm whether formal charges will be filed against the lawmaker and the other suspects.
