Popular Lagos socialite, community leader and politician, Chief Alhaji Taoridi Faronbi, popularly known as Baba Alado, has died at the age of 83.
Faronbi died on Saturday, September 26, 2026, according to a report by The Nation.
Baba Alado was a prominent figure in Mushin politics and community affairs, where he was widely known for his grassroots influence and extensive network across the political and social circles of Lagos.
Until his death, Faronbi was the head of the Alagbeji Royal Family in Papa Ajao, Mushin, and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress.
He was also associated with the transport sector and was regarded as an influential figure within the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
His influence extended beyond politics and community leadership, with several prominent Nigerian musicians, including King Wasiu Ayinde, Saheed Osupa and Pasuma, having celebrated him through their music and social engagements.
Political leaders mourn
News of Baba Alado’s death has triggered reactions from political and community leaders in Mushin.
The Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe, described the late Faronbi as a father figure, mentor and political leader whose death had created a significant void.
Aruwe said Faronbi’s contributions to the political and community life of Mushin would remain part of his legacy.
He expressed condolences to the Faronbi family and prayed for strength for his children, grandchildren, relatives, friends and associates.
The funeral rites were attended by several political and community figures, including Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, popularly known as GOS, Aruwe and the Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Dr Oluseyi Jakande.
Baba Alado had remained a visible figure in Mushin’s political and social circles for decades, with his influence spanning community mobilisation, politics, social life and the transport sector.
His death marks the end of an era for one of Mushin’s most recognisable grassroots figures.
