The Oyo and Imo State governments have intensified efforts to secure the release of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members reportedly abducted by gunmen in Imo State.

The victims, who are said to be indigenes of Oyo State, were travelling to their various NYSC orientation camps when they were intercepted by the assailants.

The development has triggered concern among their families and authorities, with both state governments working alongside security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted prospective corps members.

The collaboration was disclosed amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to track down the kidnappers and establish contact that could lead to the victims’ rescue.

The Oyo State Government is also said to be drawing on its experience from previous kidnapping incidents, including the abduction of travellers in the Oriire area of the state, as part of efforts to support the ongoing rescue operation.

Security agencies have continued intelligence gathering and other operations aimed at locating the victims and apprehending those responsible for the abduction.

The latest incident has again raised concerns over the security challenges facing young Nigerians travelling across states for national service.

Families of the affected prospective corps members are awaiting further updates from the authorities as efforts continue to secure their release.

Authorities have appealed for calm while security personnel work to bring the situation under control and ensure the safe return of the abducted youths.
