Osun Guber Aftermath: Tinubu Meets Akpabio, Oyetola, Doguwa, Others at Aso Rock

By Aliyu Oyewole

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akpabio reportedly arrived at the Villa at about 6:12pm to meet with Tinubu, who was said to have been in a meeting with the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

About an hour later, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, reportedly arrived at the Presidential Villa alongside Alhassan Doguwa, a member of the House of Representatives representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State.

Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, was also seen at the Villa during the period.

The reasons for the meetings were not immediately disclosed as of the time of filing this report.

However, Oyetola’s visit comes days after the conclusion of the Osun State governorship election in which incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Oyetola, a former governor of Osun State and former predecessor to Adeleke, is also a prominent figure within the APC.

The meetings came a day before the commencement of official political campaigns for the 2027 general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed August 19, 2026, as the commencement date for political campaigns ahead of the elections.

The timing of the meetings has therefore fuelled attention within political circles, although there was no official indication that the discussions centred on the 2027 elections or the outcome of the Osun governorship poll.

The President is also scheduled to preside over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday.
