British-Nigerian Afrobeats singer Darkoo has joined forces with Nigerian music star Asake for a new single titled ‘That Girl’.
Released on Thursday, the track combines Darkoo’s smooth delivery with Asake’s signature Fuji-inspired melodies, blending Afrobeats and Afro-fusion over percussion-driven rhythms, catchy hooks and a relaxed groove.
The song explores themes of self-confidence, attraction and remaining unbothered by public opinion, while showcasing the unique musical styles of both artistes. The collaboration also adds to the growing list of cross-border Afrobeats releases expanding the global influence of African music.
Born Oluwafisayo Isa, Darkoo began her music career as a drill rapper before transitioning into singing. She rose to prominence in 2019 with the release of her breakthrough hit ‘Gangsta’.
Her success earned her nominations for Best Female Act and Best Newcomer at the 2020 MOBO Awards, while Gangsta also received a nomination for Song of the Year.
Asake gained mainstream recognition in 2020 with his hit single ‘Lady’ and has since established himself as one of Nigeria’s biggest music exports. He has released three studio albums: Mr. Money With The Vibes (2022), Work of Art (2023) and Lungu Boy (2024).
The award-winning singer has received several local and international accolades, including a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category at the 2025 Grammy Awards, where he was ultimately beaten by fellow Nigerian artiste Tems.
