Meta has announced a suite of new WhatsApp features designed to enhance the calling experience for users across its messaging platform.
The technology company, in a statement on Thursday, said the new features include WhatsApp Web Calling, Transfer Calls Between Devices, Waiting Room for Group Calls, Instant HD Video, and Background Noise Suppression.
According to Meta, the features are being rolled out gradually and will become available to all users in the coming weeks.
One of the major additions is WhatsApp Web Calling, which allows users to make and receive both one-on-one and group audio and video calls directly from WhatsApp Web without relying on the mobile app.
The feature also includes call-specific tools such as screen sharing, emoji reactions, and a dedicated Calls tab that displays users’ call history and favourite contacts from their web browser.
Meta also introduced Transfer Calls Between Devices, enabling users to move an ongoing group call from one device to another without disconnecting or ending the conversation.
To improve control over group conversations, WhatsApp has added a Waiting Room feature. When users create a call link and enable the “Require approval to join” option, participants will first enter a virtual waiting room until the call host admits them.
The company further announced Background Noise Suppression, a feature designed to minimise unwanted background sounds during calls. Users can activate the setting during a call to improve voice clarity, even in noisy environments.
In addition, Meta unveiled Instant HD Video, which allows users to experience high-definition video quality from the opening moments of a video call, providing a clearer and more seamless communication experience.
Meta said the latest updates are part of its efforts to improve the quality, flexibility and reliability of WhatsApp calls for users across mobile and web platforms.
