Just In:“I’ll Work With Governor Makinde Again If Called Upon” — Former Oyo Deputy Governor Rauf Olaniyan

Former Oyo State Deputy Governor, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, has declared that he is willing to work with Governor Seyi Makinde again if called upon, despite the political differences that led to their separation while in office.
Olaniyan made the disclosure during an interview on the Ajibola Akinyefa Podcast, where he spoke on his political career, his relationship with Governor Makinde, and developments in Oyo State politics.
According to the former deputy governor, he harbours no resentment towards the governor and remains committed to the progress of Oyo State above personal or political considerations.
“I will work with Governor Seyi Makinde again if I’m called upon,” Olaniyan said during the interview.
His remarks come years after the political crisis between the two leaders culminated in his impeachment by the Oyo State House of Assembly in July 2022, following a prolonged rift with Governor Makinde. Olaniyan subsequently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he remains an influential political figure.
Although he did not indicate whether any reconciliation moves were currently underway, his comments suggest a willingness to set aside past political disagreements in the interest of public service.
Olaniyan’s statement is expected to generate reactions within Oyo State’s political landscape, particularly as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former deputy governor’s comments have further fueled discussions over the possibility of renewed political alliances in the state, although neither Governor Makinde nor the Oyo State Government has officially responded to the remarks.
