Osun Guber Poll: ‘Akpabio, Dangote Asked Me to Delete Osun Election Posts’- Davido

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote contacted him during the Osun State governorship election and allegedly asked him to delete his social media posts monitoring the poll.
Davido made the disclosure on Tuesday during an interview with News Central TV, where he spoke about his involvement in monitoring the August 15 election won by his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The singer also alleged that more than ₦110 billion was brought into Osun State in an attempt to influence the outcome of the election.
According to Davido, information from an insider enabled his team to monitor what he described as a massive movement of cash during the election.
“I just confirmed today. They spent N110 billion. I’m coming from somewhere where we had an insider who was sending us… If you see the cash these people brought in. If they had gotten away with that election, Nigeria is finished. Because the blueprint for election will now be violence and money,” he said.
Davido said his family’s camp did not distribute money to voters on election day, relying instead on voter mobilisation and public support.
“We didn’t spend a dime on election day. All we could do was just pray that these people take their money and vote for us,” he said.
He further claimed that voters themselves resisted attempts to disrupt the electoral process.
“It got to a point where it was the Osun people that were beating the people that were trying to seize ballots. People are tired,” he added.
The musician also alleged that he came under pressure from influential figures while posting updates on X, formerly known as Twitter, about the election and collation of results.
Davido claimed that Akpabio was attempting to reach the collation centre and that he was personally contacted by people asking him to remove his posts.
“I heard the Senate President was trying to call the collation centre… They were calling me to delete. I said sorry o. You guys have literally just gone against my uncle… I can’t delete anything. Uncle Aliko called me too. I said, ‘Uncle, I’m not deleting until the INEC announcement,’” he said.
Davido described Adeleke’s victory as evidence that political leaders who maintain a strong relationship with the people can overcome financial and political pressure.
“My uncle should be an example to all other government officials and governors. When you stand by the people, the people will stand by you,” he said.
Adeleke defeated the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and ADC candidate Najeem Salaam in the election, securing 511,067 votes against Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes. Salaam polled 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won the remaining 11.
Davido’s involvement in Osun politics is closely linked to his family’s political history. His late uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, was the first civilian governor of Osun State, while his other uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is the incumbent governor.
