Prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who were abducted in Imo State have regained their freedom, the Olubadan Palace has announced.

The development was confirmed by the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, during a telephone conversation with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by Adeola Oloko, Media Aide to the Olubadan, the governor conveyed the information to the monarch at about 5:00pm on Wednesday.

“Breaking! NYSC: The prospective members of the youth service corps, who were abducted have been released,” the statement said.

The reported release comes amid growing concerns over the safety of prospective corps members travelling to their orientation camps.

The abducted prospective corps members, who were reportedly from Oyo State, had been travelling to Imo State for the NYSC orientation exercise when they were attacked and taken away by suspected kidnappers.

The circumstances surrounding their release, including whether a ransom was paid and the identities of those who secured their freedom, were not immediately disclosed.

The Olubadan Palace statement did not also provide details on the condition of the released prospective corps members or where they were reunited with their families.

The development is expected to bring relief to the families and relatives of the prospective corps members who had been anxiously awaiting news of their whereabouts.

The statement was signed by Oloko on behalf of the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
