Stop Equating Yourself to God, Adeleke Is Not Fubara- Dele Momodu Tells Wike

By Aliyu Oyewole

Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has hit back at Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over his claim that he could have helped the All Progressives Congress (APC) win the Osun State governorship election if President Bola Tinubu had wanted victory “at all costs.”

Wike, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the remark on Tuesday while inspecting flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja.

The former Rivers State governor said the federal government deliberately allowed the August 15 Osun governorship election to proceed without interference, suggesting that he could have deployed his political influence to secure victory for the APC had President Tinubu given the go-ahead.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and ADC candidate Najeem Salaam in the closely contested election.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to emerge victorious, while Oyebamiji scored 444,815 votes. Salaam came third with 17,180 votes.

The incumbent governor won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11 LGAs.

Reacting to Wike’s comment in a terse post on Tuesday, Momodu dismissed the minister’s claim and warned him against presenting himself as an all-powerful political force.

Momodu also drew a comparison between Adeleke and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who has been widely regarded as Wike’s political ally and godson.

Wike and Fubara were embroiled in a prolonged political crisis over the control of Rivers State, with the dispute eventually affecting Fubara’s political future, including his bid for a second-term ticket.

“OSUN people would have demystified you mercilessly. Adeleke is not Fubara!! My kobo advice, stop equating yourself to GOD,” Momodu wrote.

The statement has further intensified the political exchanges surrounding the outcome of the Osun election and Wike’s growing involvement in national political affairs.
