‘ I Didn’t Own a House While Serving as Osun Governor’ — Aregbesola

Former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has revealed that he did not own a personal house throughout his eight-year tenure as governor of the state.
Aregbesola made the disclosure while speaking during an interactive session with supporters, where he reflected on his time in public office and his personal lifestyle.
According to him, despite serving as governor between 2010 and 2018, he never built or acquired a private residence, stressing that public office should be seen as an opportunity to serve rather than a means of personal enrichment.
“I didn’t own a house while serving as the Governor of Osun State,” Aregbesola said, adding that he remained committed to prudent management of public resources during his administration.
The former governor noted that leadership demands integrity, accountability and selflessness, urging public office holders to place the interest of the people above personal gains.
Aregbesola’s remark has generated reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating the financial lifestyles of politicians while in office.
The former governor, who also served as Nigeria’s Minister of Interior from 2019 to 2023, has in recent months remained active in national political discussions following his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
