DSS, Foreign Observers to Monitor NBA Election as Osigwe Dismisses Rigging Claims

The Department of State Services (DSS) and foreign observers will monitor the upcoming Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election as the association moves to ensure a transparent and credible voting process.
NBA President Afam Osigwe has dismissed allegations that the election could be rigged, insisting that the process will be free, fair, and conducted in line with the association’s constitution.
According to Osigwe, the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) operates independently and does not take instructions from him or any other individual.
To further reassure members of the association, he revealed that he would not vote in the election, saying the decision was aimed at eliminating any perception of bias.
Osigwe maintained that whoever emerges victorious should be accepted as the legitimate winner, urging members to allow democracy to take its course instead of spreading allegations capable of damaging the NBA’s image.
He also rejected claims that he was trying to impose a preferred candidate, describing the accusations as baseless and politically motivated.
The NBA President stressed that the association is committed to delivering what he believes will be one of the most credible elections in its history.
He further confirmed that a service provider engaged for the election was arrested, but disclosed that the individual has since been released, although some laptops belonging to the service provider remain in the custody of security operatives.
Osigwe appealed to members to avoid rumours, blackmail, and unverified claims, insisting that the focus should remain on electing a leader who will earn the respect of both the legal profession and Nigerians at large.
