The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Juju and Highlife musician, Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as St. Janet.
Her death was announced on Sunday by publisher and socialite Otunba Femi Davies in a post shared on his Facebook page.
According to Davies, the celebrated singer died on Saturday after a brief illness.
Announcing her passing, he described St. Janet as one of Nigeria’s most vibrant Juju and Highlife performers, renowned for her energetic stage presence, captivating live performances and party-themed songs that endeared her to fans across the country.
Throughout her career, St. Janet built a reputation as a sought-after entertainer at social gatherings, weddings and other celebrations, where her lively performances earned her widespread admiration within the Juju music community and beyond.
Her unique style and contributions to the Juju and Highlife genres helped establish her as one of the notable female voices in Nigeria’s indigenous music scene.
Although details surrounding the illness that led to her death have not been disclosed, news of her passing has sparked an outpouring of grief on social media, with fans, colleagues and admirers paying tribute to her legacy.
Many described St. Janet as a gifted performer whose music brought joy to countless audiences and whose impact on Nigeria’s Juju music industry will be remembered for years to come.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by her family.
