Nollywood Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ to Be Buried in Ilaro Monday As Actor Dies At 66

Veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be buried in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Hassan died at about 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, according to a burial announcement made by veteran actor Jide Kosoko.

Kosoko announced that the actor’s remains would be taken to Ilaro on Sunday ahead of a lying-in-state ceremony scheduled for Monday.

According to the announcement, the lying-in-state will hold at the Pavillon, Ilaro, Ogun State, from 11:00 a.m.

“With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of ALHAJI TAIWO HASSAN, popularly known as OGOGO, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today Sunday, 23rd August 2026, at 66 years,” Kosoko stated.

He added that the family had prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and give his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.

The Ilaro Muslim Community also confirmed the burial arrangements in a separate announcement shared by Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood.

The community announced that the burial prayer would take place at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, with the Chief Imam of Ilaro serving as the announcer.

Hassan’s death had earlier been confirmed by multiple sources, including Oloketuyi.

The actor’s passing came days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed publicly for medical assistance for their father, who had reportedly been battling stage-four cancer.

On Monday, August 17, the sisters sought medical advice and assistance on social media, revealing the severity of their father’s condition. Kaira reportedly disclosed that doctors had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his condition.

Hassan was one of the prominent figures in the Nigerian film industry, particularly in Yoruba-language cinema, where he built a distinguished career spanning several decades.

His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from actors, filmmakers, political figures and fans who have described his passing as a major loss to Nigeria’s creative and entertainment industry.

He is survived by his family, children, colleagues and loved ones.
