Breaking: UNIOSUN Ranked 3rd Best State University In Nigeria,19th Best University in Nigeria

Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has achieved a significant academic milestone after breaking into the list of Nigeria’s top 20 universities in the July 2026 edition of the globally recognised Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.

The latest ranking places the university 19th among 312 universities in Nigeria, third among the country’s 68 state-owned universities, and 137th out of 2,390 universities across Africa, highlighting the institution’s growing reputation in research, innovation and academic excellence.

The ranking reflects improvements in the university’s research visibility, digital presence and academic performance, reinforcing its position as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing public universities.

In a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the institution described the achievement as another milestone in its quest for academic excellence.

According to the statement, the latest ranking is the result of sustained investments in research, innovation, digital scholarship, international collaborations and quality teaching.

The university noted that its consistent growth in research output, global visibility and strategic partnerships has continued to strengthen its standing in international university rankings.

Reacting to the development, Vice-Chancellor Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye described the ranking as a strong endorsement of the institution’s strategic vision of building a globally competitive university.

He said attaining the position of the third-best state university in Nigeria and securing a place among the nation’s top 20 universities demonstrates the impact of deliberate investments in research, academic excellence and digital transformation.

According to him, the achievement reflects the collective efforts of the university’s Governing Council, management, staff, students, alumni and development partners.

“This achievement belongs to every member of the UNIOSUN community. It reflects our shared commitment to excellence, innovation and continuous improvement. We have remained focused on strengthening our research capacity, enhancing our digital visibility and providing quality education that meets global standards,” he said.

Professor Adebooye added that while the university celebrates the latest feat, it remains committed to sustaining the momentum and positioning itself among Africa’s leading research-intensive universities.

He commended members of staff for their commitment to impactful research, scholarly publications and community service, while also appreciating students, alumni and partners for contributing to the institution’s rising global profile.

The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the university’s commitment to improving research quality, expanding international collaborations, promoting innovation and sustaining academic excellence.

He expressed confidence that the latest Webometrics ranking further confirms that UNIOSUN is making steady progress towards becoming one of Africa’s leading universities.
