Spain are the new champions of the world after defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The victory earned La Roja their second FIFA World Cup title and denied Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina the chance to retain the trophy they won at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The final brought the curtain down on the first-ever 48-team FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, with millions of football fans watching around the world.
Spain delivered a disciplined and composed performance, scoring the decisive goal in a tightly contested encounter before holding off Argentina’s late pressure to secure one of the biggest victories in the nation’s football history.
