Faces of Suspected Kidnappers Behind Oyo School Abduction Surface Online as DSS Intensifies Investigation
The suspects were arrested during the security operation that rescued abducted pupils and teachers after 56 days in captivity, with authorities continuing investigations into the terror cell.

Photos of three men suspected to be members of the kidnapping gang responsible for the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have surfaced online, days after the successful rescue of the victims.
The images, which have been widely circulated on social media, are believed to show some of the suspects arrested during the joint security operation that led to the freedom of the abducted schoolchildren and their teachers after 56 days in captivity. Authorities have not officially released the identities of the suspects.
The Presidency had earlier confirmed that eight suspected kidnappers were arrested during the rescue mission, while several others were neutralised by security operatives. The operation involved coordinated efforts by the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the police, and other intelligence agencies.
President Bola Tinubu commended the security agencies for the successful operation, describing it as a major victory against criminal elements terrorising communities. He also disclosed that one of the notorious kingpins whose release was allegedly demanded by the kidnappers remains in custody and is being prosecuted, stressing that no ransom or prisoner swap was involved in securing the victims’ freedom.
The abduction, which occurred in May, sparked nationwide outrage after dozens of pupils and teachers were taken from schools in Oriire Local Government Area. During their captivity, one of the abducted teachers was reportedly killed, while families and civil society groups mounted sustained pressure on the government to secure the victims’ release.
Security agencies are continuing investigations to identify other members of the criminal network. Reports indicate that some individuals linked to the suspects, including their wives, could also face prosecution if investigations establish that they actively participated in the kidnapping operation.
The circulation of the suspects’ photographs has generated widespread reactions, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough prosecution to ensure justice for the victims and deter future attacks on schools.
