Spain have etched their name deeper into football history after defeating France 2-0 in the FIFA World Cup semi-final to equal Italy’s all-time record of 37 consecutive international matches without defeat.
The victory in Arlington, Texas, not only secured La Roja a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final but also saw Luis de la Fuente’s side match one of the most celebrated records in international football.
Spain have now gone 37 consecutive matches unbeaten, equalling the mark previously set by Italy. The remarkable run reflects the team’s consistency, tactical discipline and dominance against some of the world’s strongest opponents.
Goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro sealed a comfortable win over the 2018 world champions, with Spain controlling much of the contest and preventing France from finding their rhythm.
The Spanish side will now have the opportunity to make history in Sunday’s World Cup final. A victory over either England or Argentina would not only hand Spain another world title but also establish a new all-time record for the longest unbeaten streak in international football.
